will never substitute for actually being there, describing sights and smells,
humans, animals, landmarks encountered, the dramas of everyday lives, wonders of the world seen up close. Travel is my addiction. The urge to explore remote and more familiar places with new eyes, having unique experiences the rest of us may not have seen or encountered often is the addictive bit. We travel writers try to write passionately to entice readers to share that journey, the excitement of arrival, the beauty of our surroundings and indeed the downside sometimes when we are honest - being ripped off, lost, stranded, homesick, disappointed, stressed when things go wrong along the way.
From skiing in the High Atlas mountains of Morocco and the very end of the world at Ushuaia, Patagonia to helping with the wine harvest at the tip of Italy’s boot in Puglia, learning the Masai secrets of natural medicine in Kenya to the art of alpine horn blowing high in the Swiss Mountains, getting up close to hippos and crocs in Malawi , flying above the remote Highlands of Ethiopia and exploring the far reaches of Australia’s Northern Territory….these are among my stand out journeys of recent times.
